Starting out this week’s Signal with coverage from Mexico. There’s a new nonstop path being implemented by Volaris between Nashville and Guadalajara. This is scheduled to go into effect on October 15th.
Additionally, Mexico recently hosted the 4th World Sports Tourism Congress from September 7th through 9th. This was the first time the international summit was held in the Americas, bringing together destinations, businesses, and tourism leaders from around the world.
On the flip side, Mexico has tightened its policies around cellphone registration. With the new enforcement linking identified users to local mobile numbers, obtaining prepaid SIM plans now comes with an additional step.
In the past, this was an almost frictionless process. For foreign travelers, passport identification can be used when registering a Mexican mobile line.
One last Mexico topic worth pointing out is the decline in international air travel into Cancún. International passenger traffic was down about 15% year over year in August.
This doesn’t automatically mean travelers are shifting elsewhere, but it makes secondary beach markets and newer Mexican destination hubs worth watching. Taking time to research new locations and hidden gems could be worthwhile with the current trends occurring.
Moving through Central America, Guatemala is gaining more consistent access from Canada. Air Canada has confirmed Montréal–Guatemala City and Toronto–Guatemala City as year-round connections beginning in 2027.

Moving into South America, Colombia has seen the opposite effect in flight demand, with airline ticket searches for the country up more than 10% compared with last year.
The United States remains Colombia’s largest source of those searches, with Spain and Mexico following. If you have plans later this year or early next year to visit the country, now may be a good time to start comparing accommodations.
Neighboring Peru is also seeing improved access from Canada. Air Canada has confirmed that Montréal–Lima will extend to year-round service beginning in 2027.
Continuing our movement further south toward Chile, the end of this week marks two national holidays. Independence Day is tomorrow, September 18th, with the Day of the Glories of the Army directly following on September 19th.
Santiago International Airport is expected to experience a travel surge, with today projected to be the busiest day of the holiday period at more than 71,000 travelers.
Finally, Brazil has passed 4 million international air arrivals through July this year, representing a 12% increase compared with the same period in 2025. Total international arrivals across all entry methods reached 5.87 million during that period.
Brazil recorded a historic 9.29 million international tourists in 2025, and the continued growth in air arrivals shows that its international tourism boom remains a strong story.
It’s also a good travel consideration for those wanting to expand outside of the Spanish-dominated regions of the Americas.
With that we’ve concluded. The landscape is forever evolving, with new policies and events affecting the routes we plan to take as travelers. Feel free to like and/or comment if you feel inclined or have any feedback regarding these topics.
Until next time,
Structured Nomad
